Frederick P. Morton, age 83
|
Frederick P. “Fred” Morton, age 83, husband of the late Ramona J. (Conklin), of Merkel Rd., Gilbertsville, died Friday at the Pottstown Manor Care.
Born in West Chester, he was the son of the late Charles H. and Ethel (Preston) Morton.
He was a WW II Army Veteran, serving in Italy.
Fred worked for 30 years at the former Firestone Tire & Rubber Co., in Pottstown, and later worked for Weiss Markets in Gilbertsville, for 10 years.
He was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church, Gilbertsville, and a life member of the Boyertown American Legion Post. Fred also enjoyed playing bingo, bowling, and softball, and was an all around big sports fan.
Surviving are three stepsons; Marvin, husband of Toni Thrasher of Stowe, Edward, husband of Eva Thrasher, of Pottstown, and Michael, husband of Kathy Thrasher, of Boyertown, along with two stepdaughters; Patricia Rhoads, of Pottstown, and Donna, wife of David Conrad, of Gilbertsville. He is also survived by a brother; Richard Morton, of West Chester, and two sisters; Anita Wynn, of Downingtown, and Frances Janderchick, of Pottstown, along with 8 step grandchildren. He was pre-deceased by a brother John Morton.
Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Wednesday, in St. Luke Lutheran Church, 35 Wilson Ave., Gilbertsville, with the Rev. Chris Weidner, officiating. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Park, Pottstown. Friends may call on Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 PM, at Catagnus Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 1020 E. Phila. Ave., Gilbertsville, and also on Wednesday from 10 to 10:30 AM, at the church.

Donald C. Bausher, avid outdoorsman

Donald C. Bausher, age 81, of Manor Care, Pottstown, and formerly of Boyertown, died Sunday Aug. 30, 2009, at the Manor.
Born in Yellow House, Berks Co., he was the son of the late Daniel W. Bausher and the late Amy A. Reeser.
He worked at the former Charles Gable Co. in Boyertown for 14 years, and then for Berks Products, in Gilbertsville for 25 years. In addition, he worked for 15 years with the Security Police at the Boyertown Senior High School, and also for 15 years as a school bus driver for Quigley Bus Co., in Bally.
Donald was member of the Pikeville Sportsmans Assoc., the Friendship Hook & Ladder Fire Co., in Boyertown, and the Liberty Fire Co., in New Berlinville. He was an avid outdoor sportsman.
Surviving is a companion; Mary Decker, of Gilbertsville, and a son; Donald J. Bausher, husband of Mary, of Bechtelsville, along with two daughters; Mary Jane, wife of Richard Kemp, of Barto, and Linda A. Schutt, of Barto. Also surviving is a step-son; Robert L. Kemp, husband of Delores, of New Berlinville, and a sister; Barbara A. Eshbach, of New Berlinville. He has 9 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and 1 great great granddaughter.
Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Thursday at Catagnus Funeral Home & Cremation Center, with Mr. Ted Maurer, officiating. Burial will be in Limerick Garden of Memories. Friends may call on Thursday from 9:30 to 10:15 AM, at the funeral home.

Wilbur E. Kutz, loving husband and father

Wilbur E. “Bub” Kutz, 71, of Pottstown, husband of Gladys L. (Mauger) of 44 years, passed away on Tuesday at Pottstown Memorial Medical Center.
Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Harold V. and Edna V. (Boose) Kutz.
Surviving with his wife is their daughter Cindy R. Booth, wife of Edward, of Quakertown; his brother Harold V. Kutz Jr and his sister Carolyn Loose, both of Pottstown. Also surviving are grandchildren Sarah and Tyler Booth. Along with his parents he is predeceased by his brother Larry Kutz.
Wilbur was a member of Salem Evangelical & Reformed Church in Reamstown. He enjoyed gardening and traveling. He most recently worked at Sanatoga Ridge Community helping with the landscaping.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, 10:30AM at Catagnus Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Inc., 711 N. Franklin Street, Pottstown with Rev. Stephen E. Hollinger officiating. Burial will follow in Trinity Great Swamp UCC Cemetery in Spinnerstown. Friends may call on Monday from 9:30AM to 10:30AM at the funeral home.

William P. “Bill” Reazor, 84, of North Coventry, husband of the late Norma (Longacre) Reazor, passed away on Tuesday at Pottstown Memorial Medical Center.
Born in Pottstown, he was the son of the late Lester and Louise (Schaefer) Reazor.
Surviving is son Ronald W. Reazor Sr, husband of Sheri, of North Coventry; grandson Ronald W. Reazor Jr., husband of Stephani, of Pottstown, granddaughter Jaime L. Reazor of Pottstown; great grandchildren Aryial, Tiffany and Elijah; brothers Richard, Gerald, John, Joseph and David Reazor; and sister Barbara Reinford. He is predeceased by his brothers Lester and Thomas Reazor.
William was a WWII Army veteran. He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Pottstown and a retiree from Stanley G. Flagg Company. He was an avid bowler for 50+ years and was a Phillies and Eagles fan.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, 10:30AM at Catagnus Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Inc., 711 N. Franklin Street, Pottstown with Rev. Terrence Highland officiating. Craig S. Gamler, loving husband and father

Craig S. Gamler, 47, of Boyertown, Colebrookdale Twp., husband of Dawn A. (Carpenter) Gamler of 28 years, passed away on Tuesday at his home after a battle with Lou Gehrig’s Disease.
Born in Reading, PA, he was the son of Russell A. Gamler and Gladys I. (Leh) Oppelt.
Surviving is son Adam C. Gamler, and daughter Julie M. Gamler; brother Dean A. Gamler, husband of Liz; and sister Karen D. (Gamler) Soffa, wife of Todd. Also surviving is step-mother Janice I. Gamler, step-father Joseph Oppelt and step brothers Randy Oppelt, husband of Denise, Michael Oppelt, husband of Lisa, and Ronnie Oppelt.
Craig worked at the family business Drum Construction for 11 years and at A. W. Mercer for 30 years. He was a die hard Mets fan, enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching dirt track racing at Grandview and loved taking trips to the casinos. He was a loving husband and father and will be sadly missed.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, 11AM at Catagnus Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Inc., 1020 E. Phila. Ave., Gilbertsville. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Boyertown. Friends may call on Saturday from 9AM to 10:45 AM at the funeral home.

Mary P. O’Hara, loving wife, mother & grandmother

Mary P. (Riffert) O’Hara, 64, of Royersford, loving wife of Gerald M. O’Hara, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Wednesday at Pottstown Memorial Medical Center.
Born in Mt. Vernon, NY on Nov. 17, 1944, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Jean (Frenz) Riffert.
Surviving with her husband are her beloved children Peter Gurciullo, Paul Gurciullo, Jennifer O’Hara, Leslie O’Hara and Ryan O’Hara. She was a devoted grandmother to Amanda, Caitlin, Nicholas, Olivia, Peter and Emily and was a cherished sister to Barbara Glick.
She was a 1962 graduate of A.B. Davis High School in Mt. Vernon, NY. Mary was loved very much by her family and will be sadly missed. She was a kind hearted person and a friend to everyone she met.
Friends will be received on Tuesday, Aug. 25 from 9Am to 11Am at Catagnus Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Ltd., 329 N. Lewis Road, Royersford. A graveside service will follow at Limerick Garden of Memories.

Kathryn K. (Potteiger) Cornbrooks, 102, wife of the late Thomas E. Cornbrooks, of Parkhouse Providence Pointe Nursing Home, passed away on Friday.
Born in Philadelphia, PA on January 21, 1907, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Kathryn (Kistler) Potteiger.
Surviving is her daughter Kathryn Hipple, wife of William, of Pottstown; sister Dorothy Powell of Haddonfield, NJ; grandchildren Tom Hipple, husband of Elaine and Eric Hipple, husband of Anita; and great grand children Stacy Kless, wife of Ben, and Ryan Hipple. She is also predeceased by her brother Charles Potteiger and her sisters Ann Carson, Helen Sherrill and Ruth Heath.
Kathryn lived most of her life in Collingswood, NJ, for 33 years in South Coventry Twp., Chester County with her daughter and son in law and at Parkhouse in Royersford for her last years. She was employed at two gift shops in Collingswood, being manager at one. She attended Coventryville United Methodist Church in Coventryville where she was active in the “Owls” Ladies Group and annual Christmas Bazaar. She was always noted for always having a smile and always remarked “I had a good life”.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, 10:00AM at Catagnus Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 711 N. Franklin Street, Pottstown. Burial will follow Harleigh Cemetery in Camden, NJ. Friends may call on Monday from 9AM to 10AM at the funeral home.

Marjorie J. Pitchford, formerly of Upper Pottsgrove
|
Marjorie J. (Johnson) Pitchford, widow of Charles W. Pitchford, of Frederick Mennonite Community and formerly of Upper Pottsgrove, died late Tuesday at Pottstown Memorial Medical Center where she was a patient for three days. She was 90.
Born in Rockford, Illinois, she was a daughter of the late C. Harold Johnson and Estelle (Forsell) Johnson.
Mrs. Pitchford was a graduate of Rockford College, with a degree in Psychology and English, and the University of Illinois Graduate School of Library Science. She was a Red Cross ambulance driver during World War II and was an air hostess for Trans World Airlines and flew personally for the legendary Howard Hughes when he owned TWA. After meeting her future husband, a B-17 pilot, she retired from TWA and was a homemaker living in Bethlehem and then the Chicago suburbs for many years before returning to Pennsylvania and the Pottstown area where she resided for the past 43 years.
Mrs. Pitchford and her husband, a retired Bethlehem Steel executive, were world travelers, spanning the globe from Australia to Iceland, Europe to the Far East. They had flown around the world together and crossed the Atlantic Ocean on the QEII numerous times. She had served on the executive board of America Youth Hostels for many years and during college went camping through New England and the Province of Quebec bicycling more than 1,500 miles. She was a member of “Clipped Wings” Chicago Chapter.
Mrs. Pitchford was a member of First United Presbyterian Church of Pottstown, the PMMC North Auxiliary, the Junior League, and a longtime member of Brookside Country Club.
She is survived by two sons, Charles H. Pitchford of Royersford; John B. Pitchford, husband of Denise Pitchford of Woodbury, N.J.; two daughters, Marilyn, wife of Joseph Catania, Rockville Centre, N.Y., and Mary Pitchford, wife of Eric Little, Brantford, Ontario, Canada; a sister, Marilyn Bitzer of Shelbyville, Ill.; eight grandchildren, Jeffrey C. Pitchford, Janice Hazen, Carrie Kehl, Jennifer Pitchford, Gregory Pitchford, James Little, Mia Catania and Jonathan Catania, and two great grandchildren, Brynn and Carter Kehl.
The Rev. Carter Lester Jr. and the Rev. Kerry Pidcock-Lester, co-pastors, will officiate at a 1:30 p.m. funeral service Saturday at First Presbyterian Church, 750 N. Evans St., Pottstown. The family will receive friends 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the church. Interment will be in the Peace Garden at First Presbyterian Church.

Margaret S. Hanley, 90, of Boyertown

Margaret S. (Schmeelk) Hanley, 90, of Boyertown, wife of the late Paul R. Hanley, passed away on Sunday at Pottstown Memorial Medical Center.
Born in Union City, NJ, she was the daughter of the late John E. and Emma (Peper) Schmeelk.
Surviving is her Nephew William H. Schmeelk, husband of Barbara, of Marrietta, GA, a great nephew William “Chip” Schmeelk and a great niece Katherine Wilson.
Margaret was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Boyertown where she would volunteer for the American Red Cross. She graduated from Union Hill High School in Union City, NJ in 1937 and from Albright College in Reading, PA in 1941. She was a teacher and counselor at Boyertown School District for 36 years, retiring in 1978. She was a member of the Boyertown Women’s Club and the Boyertown Association of PA Education Retired Teachers Association.

Stephen J. Saviello, age 67, husband of Dorothy (Wilson) Saviello, of Brook Dr., Royersford, died Sunday at his residence. Born in Kearny N.J., he was the son of the late John S. Saviello.
He was President of the former Metro Shippers, in Norristown, for 20 years. He was a member of Sacred Heart R.C. Church, Royersford. Stephen was an avid photographer,and also was very involved for over 16 years, as a volunteer EMT, for both the Lower Providence Twp. Ambulance Squad, and the W. Norriton Ambulance Squad. He also enjoyed and loved his cats.
Surviving with his wife of 41 years, is a daughter; Stephanie A. Saviello, of Pottstown, and a son; John G. husband of Kate Saviello, of Limerick Twp. Also surviving is a brother; Gregory J. husband of Rosemarie Saviello, of Lincoln Park N.J. Stephen was also a loving grandfather to 5 grandchildren; Danielle M. Saviello, who resided with her grandparents for many years, along with Lucas Saviello, Phillip Minoske, John Paul Saviello, and Julliette Saviello. He was pre-deceased by a daughter; Jamiann DeFusco.

Ellen “Eileen” (Fullerton) Downey, age 82, wife of the late Ivan Downey, of Pleasantview Dr., Douglassville, died Friday in Manor Care, Pottstown.
Born in Ballymena County Antrim, Northern Ireland, she was the daughter of the late James and Mary (Lorimer) Fullerton.
Ellen worked as a Nannie in the Phila. area for many years, along with raising her own family. She was very proud of her heritage and always loved going home to N. Ireland.
Surviving are two daughters; Heather D. wife of Kenneth L. Schaeffer, of Amity Twp., and Sylvia M. Johnson, companion of John B. Deptula, of Ft. Mohave Ariz. Also surviving are three brothers; Robert and Albert Fullerton, of N. Ireland, and Herbert Fullerton, of England, along with 4 grandchildren; Nicole Bennett, Jennifer Kircher, Antonino J. Buto, and James Downey Jr., and 6 great grandchildren. She was pre-deceased by a son; James Downey, and seven brothers, and one sister.
Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in St. Aloysius New Cemetery, Lower Pottsgrove Twp.

Kathryn G. “Kass” (Green) Beaver, wife of Lester H. Beaver, of Frederick Mennonite Community, Upper Frederick Twp., died Saturday morning at Frederick.
Born in Gardenville, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Thomas E. and Pauline (Rau) Green.
She graduated in 1940 from Yeadon High School, and was Valadictorian of her class.
She worked for the Norristown School District for 20 years.
Kass was a member of the St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, Obelisk, Pa. She was a very creative person, and enjoyed sewing, crosheting, needle work, and enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, in addition to reading.
Surviving with her husband of 65 years, are two sons; Craig H. Beaver of Boyertown, and Keith L. husband of Victoria Beaver, of Schwenksville, and a daughter; Christine L. Murray, of Exton, Pa. Also surviving are seven grandchildren; Jennifer, James, Sara, Laura, Molly, Nathan and Karen. She was predeceased by three brothers; Thomas, George, and Walter Green.
Funeral services will be 11 AM Thursday at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, Rt. 73 & Neiffer Rd., Obelisk, with the Rev. James A. Shelly, officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Sharon K. (Hasselhan) Koch, age 60, wife of David E. Koch, of Lemon St., Stowe, died Saturday in Pottstown Memorial Medical Center.
Born in Pottstown, she was the daughter of Lois (March) Hasselhan, of Upper Pottsgrove Twp., and the late John Hasselhan.
She was a 1967 graduate of Pottsgrove High School. She had worked for Robert Evans Real Estate and Insurance, in Pottstown for many years, and later she worked for the former Patriot Bank, in Pottstown.
Sharon was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Pottstown. She enjoyed working with geneology in general, and loved to crochet and go camping.
Surviving with her husband and mother is a daughter: Kim M. wife of Nicholas DiPaolo, of Bethlehem, and a son; Brian A. Koch, of Douglassville. Also surviving are two sisters: Sandra Hasselhan, of Upper Pottsgrove Twp. and Sheryl Migdal, of North Coventry Twp., along with 3 grandsons: Stephen and Jason Koch, and Gareth DiPaolo, and 5 Godchildren.

Mildred “Mim” (Benfield) Matz, 72, of Boyertown, wife of the late James I. Matz, passed away on Friday at home with her family by her side.
Born in Washington, Twp., Berks Co., she was the daughter of the late Charles and Estella (Bartholomew) Benfield.
Surviving are her daughters Linda Nugent of Northlake, IL., Lori Mauger of Boyertown and Lisa Hamm of Sassamansville; her brother Charles Benfield of Barto; 8 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her son Daniel Matz, 2 sisters and a brother.
Mildred attended Calvary United Church of Christ in Barto. She was a loving mother who enjoyed cooking, needle crafts and spending time with her grandchildren.

Jane M. (Kehs) DiCindio, 57, wife of James N. DiCindio, of Boyertown, passed away on Wednesday at her residence.
Born in Bally, she was the daughter of Cyril Kehs of Bally and the late Rita (Melcher) Kehs.
Jane worked as a Lab Technician for Pottstown Memorial Medical Center, for the past 35 years. She was a member of St. Columbkill R.C. Church, Boyertown.
Jane loved art and was an artist herself. Most of all, Jane was a wonderful wife and mother and loved spending time with her family, in addition to her dogs.
Surviving with her husband and father are their daughter Carissa DiCindio, wife of Patrick Yaggy, of Athens, GA; her brothers Robert Kehs of Sellersville, PA, Charles Kehs of Barto, Vincent Kehs of Barto, Martin Kehs of Barto, and John Kehs of Huntersville, NC, also her sisters Kathleen Kehs of Emmaus, PA, Agnes Haddad of Boyertown, Lucy Destan of Gilbertsville, Helen Moyer of Gilbertsville, Ruth Breuninger of E. Greenville, Anne Tovcinak of Zionsville, Teresa White of Mirror Lake, NH, and Mary Fronheiser of Bally. She is predeceased by a son Jimmy V. DiCindio and brothers Francis and James Kehs.

Robert R. "Bob" Seltmann Sr., 75, of Boyertown, husband of the late Audrey M. (Kern) Seltmann, passed away on Monday at St. Luke's Hospital in Bethlehem.
Born in Pottstown, he was the son of the late Robert H. and Josephine (Adamski) Seltmann.
Surviving is his daughter Estelle M., wife of Thomas Reichel, of Arlington Heights, IL, son Robert R. Seltmann Jr., husband of Valesia, of Oahu, HI; brothers Robert H. Jr., Bart and Ronald "Nick" Seltmann, all of Pottstown. Also surviving are grandsons Ryan and CJ Reichel and granddaughters Annalia, Ariane, and Anglique Seltmann and cousins of the Virginia area.
Robert a member of the NRA, a former member of the Ringing Hill Fire Company, and an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing and spending time with friends playing cards. He worked for Stanley G Flaggs Co. and later for Browns Printing Company where he met his wife Audrey of 15 years. Robert was a kind and generous man.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, 4PM at Catagnus Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Inc., 1020 E. Phila. Ave., Gilbertsville. Burial will be private. Friends may call on Friday from 3PM to 4PM at the funeral home.

Michael D. “Mick” Moser, 51, husband of Lisa A. (Uhas) Moser to whom he was married 17 years, of North Coventry Twp., passed away unexpectedly after a battle with diabetes on Sunday at his home.
Born in Pottstown, he was the son of the late Richard and Irene (Cohrac) Moser.
Surviving with his wife are his brothers Gregory, Richard and Kyle and several nieces and nephews.
Mike was the owner of Mike Moser Roofing Company for 25 years prior to his retirement. He was a member of the Pottstown Quoit Club and was an avid hunter and golfer.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, 10:30AM at Limerick Garden of Memories with burial to follow. Friends may call on Thursday from 8:30AM to 9:45AM at Catagnus Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Inc., 711 N. Franklin Street, Pottstown.
