Barbara E. (Wilkinson) Ohanesian, 58, died early Wednesday morning, March 9, 2011, at her home in South Coventry, Pottstown, Pa. Barbara was born in Norristown, Pa., on April 6, 1952. She was the daughter of the late Albert Edward and Edna Hayer (nee Cotton) Wilkinson of Pottstown, Pa.
Barbara was a 1970 graduate of Owen J. Roberts High School, a graduate of McCann Business School in Reading, and attended West Chester University. Her work career included; First Federal Saving and Loan, The Hill School, and WordTech. Barbara loved her family, work, home, and maintenance of her flower beds. Her main focus outside of work and family was the American Cancer Society and sharing her time with the ACS staff and volunteers to fight back against this disease. She was a National Award Winner for her work on the National Relay for Life Advisory Team. She received the American Cancer Society Volunteer Achievement Award from the Pennsylvania Division. She was the Chairperson for the INAUGURAL AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY CANCER ACTION NETWORK “A Capitol Evening CAN Make a Difference”, held at the State Capitol Building in Harrisburg. She was the Chairperson of the Pennsylvania Relay for Life University held at State College. She served on the Executive Committee of the American Cancer Society, Pottstown Relay for Life, as well as being Team Captain of the WordTech Strategy One Team. She was a member of Brookside Country Club, The Pottstown Investment Club as well as several business organizations.
Barbara was a co-founder of The WordTech Group, a Direct Marketing and Database Management Company in Pottstown, Pa. Founded in 1978, she was the Vice President of Operations and Database Administration. Barbara developed several database applications that supported marketing programs for major Agribusinesses and Financial Marketing Activities.
Barbara is survived by her husband, Charles E. Ohanesian, her two sons; Benjamin J. Ohanesian, husband of Sarah, of Phoenixville, and Gregory N. Ohanesian, husband of Jessica, of North Coventry, her granddaughter; Olivia A. Ohanesian of North Coventry, her brothers; Derek Wilkinson, husband of Cecelia, of Elverson, Pa., Norman Wilkinson, husband of Linda, of Reading, Pa., her aunt; Agnes C. Cotton, a resident of Sanatoga Manor in Pottstown, as well as nephews and nieces.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Funeral Service on Tuesday, March 15, 2011, at 11:00 AM, with Reverend Koshy Matthews of Saint Peters Episcopal Church of Phoenixville officiating, at Catagnus Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 711 N. Franklin Street, Pottstown, Pa., 19464, followed by a Celebration of Life. Friends may also call on Monday evening, March 14, 2011 from 6:00-8:00 PM, and Tuesday morning from 10:00-10:45 AM at the Funeral Home. Burial will be held at Pughtown Baptist Cemetery at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, March 23, 2011.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Barbara’s memory to The American Cancer Society or Saint Peters Episcopal Church.
