Carl E. "Chick" Ecker, 77, of Pottstown, husband of the late Dorothy C. (Chernesky) Ecker, passed away on Friday at his home.
Lifelong resident of Pottstown, he is survived by his daughter Theresa and son-in-law Jeff Mann of Malvern; sisters Alice Snyder, Dorothy Miller, and Carol Dickinson and numerous nieces and nephews. Along with his wife and parents, he is predeceased by his brothers Clair and George Ecker and his sister Frances Erb.
He graduated from Norco High School in 1952 and worked for Bethlehem Steel for over 25 years followed by many years as a purchasing agent at Unicast in Boyertown. Chick was an avid sports fan who frequently attended local high school sporting events and enjoyed watching American Legion baseball. He was a Phillies supporter and travelled to spring training each of the past two years. He enthusiastically followed horse racing and enjoyed weekly outings with his friends at OTB.
His daily routine included going to the YMCA for water walking and making the rounds to his social clubs including the Pottstown Quoit Club, the German Club and Holy Trinity. He was also a member of the Pottstown Senior center.
Carl attended Holy Trinity Russian Orthodox Church in Pottstown and participated in the church’s many fund raising events including pierogi sales. His pleasant personality and friendly manner will be missed by all who had the opportunity to know him.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 9:00AM to 10:45AM at Holy Trinity Russian Orthodox Church, the corner of Mervine and Juniper Streets, Pottstown. A Funeral Service will be held following the visitation at 11:00AM with Fr. Jason Franchak officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
