David Ernest McDonald, 79, of Pottstown, was born in Pottstown, PA to the late David J. and Gertrude (Jenkins) McDonald.
Raised in Pottstown, he graduated from Pottstown High School in 1957. He was united in marriage to the late Ella Louise Little.
A US Army Veteran of the Vietnam War, he was awarded the Purple Heart, Bronze Star Army Commendation Medal, Combat Infantry Badge and several other awards.
He retired in 2010 from Tri-County Transit where he was employed as Operations Manager.
David served as Squad Leader of Pottstown Auxiliary Police Department, was Post Commander of Post 7155 VFW Trappe, Quarter Master Post 780 VFW Pottstown, Adjutant Post 47 American Legion Pottstown, and a member of AMVETS Post 2 Millsboro, Delaware. He was also a member of the Pottstown Moose, FOE Postown, Montgomery Elks Lodge 1271 Pottstown, and past Worshiper Master Keystone Lodge 113 Pottstown.
On August 2, 2019, he was called home to rest. He leaves behind 3 sons, Robert Little, husband of Monique, Wendell Little, and David “Skip” McDonald, companion of Erica; 3 daughters, Robin Yates, Beverly McDonald-Bartzer, wife of Drew, and Jill McDonald-Bright, wife of D’Andre; and 17 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
He is survived by 3 sisters, Mary Reese, Carol Lyons and Virginia Robinson; and friend and neighbor, Betsy McKissic. He was predeceased by 6 brothers and 4 sisters.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, August 9, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Invictus Church (79 Hanover St., Pottstown, PA 19464) with Bishop Everett Debnam officiating. Burial will follow at Limerick Garden of Memories. Visitation will be held on Friday, August 9, 2019 at Invictus Church from 10:00-11:00 AM.
