Minh Quang Dang-Zimmers

April 20, 1988 – June 24, 2026

In the short time he was given, Minh Quang Dang-Zimmers did what takes most people a lifetime.

On June 24, 2026, after a courageous battle with diffuse pediatric-type high-grade glioma, a rare and aggressive form of brain cancer, Minh passed away peacefully at the age of 38, surrounded by his family and close friends. Though our hearts are broken beyond words, we find comfort in knowing he is no longer suffering, is free from pain, and is finally at peace. May he now rest in the loving company of those who have gone before him, especially his beloved mother, Dung Kim Lam.

Minh was impossible to define by any one title. He was an extraordinary chef, a gifted artist, a talented musician and singer, an entrepreneur, a linguist, and a lifelong student of the world. He approached life with boundless curiosity, finding joy in learning, creating, and sharing his passions with others.

He was the person everyone called when they had a question. Whether it was history, geography, food, wine, languages, astronomy, music, science, or culture, Minh either knew the answer or delighted in discovering it alongside you. Family and friends affectionately called him their "human Swiss Army knife" because there never seemed to be a subject he couldn't discuss or a skill he couldn't master.

Cooking was Minh's language of love. Over nearly two decades in the culinary world, he worked his way from busser to executive chef before founding Fête Chez Toi, his private dining and catering company. To Minh, food was never simply something to eat—it was an experience that brought people together. Every meal he prepared reflected his generosity, creativity, and genuine love for caring for others.

His passion for food also inspired him to create Food Laboratory, a passion project where he shared recipes, cooking techniques, and the curiosity that defined so much of his life. Through each video, Minh encouraged others to cook with confidence, ask questions, and discover the joy of learning in the kitchen. His videos remain a lasting part of his legacy, preserving his generous spirit, his love of teaching, and the curiosity he so enjoyed sharing with others. Those who wish to spend a little more time with Minh are invited to visit his YouTube channel, Food Laboratory.

His creativity extended far beyond the kitchen. As a Fine Arts student at Montgomery County Community College, Minh expressed himself through painting, creating works inspired by nature, color, and the beauty he saw in the world. He spoke English, Vietnamese, and Spanish fluently and was conversant in French and Italian, believing every language offered another way to understand people and cultures.

Music was woven throughout Minh's life. A self-taught pianist and guitarist, he especially loved playing his beloved Martin guitar. His taste in music was as limitless as his curiosity, spanning classic rock, soul, folk, pop, jazz, and just about everything in between. Whether performing at local open mic nights, singing karaoke with family and friends, or simply sharing music with everyone around him, Minh believed music had a way of bringing people together. He also loved to dance, and some of his happiest memories were made on the dance floor surrounded by the people he loved.

Even as his illness affected his short-term memory, something remarkable remained: when the music began, Minh always found the lyrics. Songs stayed with him, a reflection of how deeply music had always lived in his heart.

Some of Minh's happiest moments were also the simplest. He loved gathering family and friends for karaoke, where laughter often lasted longer than the songs themselves. He believed life was meant to be celebrated—with incredible food, great music, meaningful conversation, a little healthy debate, and never passing up the chance to sing one more song.

Minh found wonder everywhere. He loved looking at the stars, talking about planets, and imagining the mysteries beyond our world. He was a devoted fan of Star Trek and James Bond, had a particular appreciation for the timeless craftsmanship of Omega watches, and never stopped asking questions or seeking to understand the world a little better.

His love for animals began long before adulthood. As a young boy, he happily pet-sat for neighbors, and that compassion only grew throughout his life. Animals seemed to recognize something special about Minh. Whether meeting a beloved family pet or stopping to greet a dog on a walk, he never missed an opportunity to share kindness.

Minh also appreciated beauty in everyday life. He loved fashion, enjoyed dressing well, and had an eye for color, style, and presentation. His appreciation for beauty wasn't about appearances—it was another expression of his creativity and the joy he found in the world around him. It came as no surprise to those who knew him that he was voted Best Dressed by the Spring-Ford High School Class of 2006.

To know Minh was to know generosity without hesitation, intelligence without arrogance, and humor that could brighten even the darkest day. He made people feel welcome, listened to, and genuinely valued.

Even through the unimaginable journey of living with diffuse pediatric-type high-grade glioma, Minh met each day with remarkable grace and courage, without complaint. His illness became part of his story, but he never let it define who he was. Even when his world became smaller, his heart never did. He continued to create, to laugh, to learn, to love, and to inspire everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Given a prognosis measured in months, Minh gave us three extraordinary years. That time was a gift, and he filled each day with purpose, beauty, and the same boundless curiosity that defined his life.

Above all, Minh loved deeply and was deeply loved. He shared his life with his partner and soulmate, Samuel Henry Zimmers-Dang. Together, they built a life full of adventure and a love that nothing could diminish. Although time constraints would not allow them to be married by law, they were family in every way that mattered. Samuel stayed faithfully by his side through every chapter and remained a steady source of love, strength, and comfort to the very end.

Minh is survived by his devoted life partner and soulmate, Samuel Henry Zimmers-Dang; his father, Thien Dang, and stepmother, Hieu Mai Dang; his brother, Tam Dang, and sister-in-law, Raquel Villanueva Dang; his beloved grandmothers; and many cherished aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and countless people whose lives are richer for having known him.

There is a quiet comfort in knowing that Minh's journey ended on June 24, the same date his beloved mother left this world years before. Those who loved him find peace in believing she was waiting for him, ready to welcome him home with open arms.

Flowers & Memorial Contributions

Minh found joy in flowers, nature, and the beauty of color, and we know he would have loved seeing a room filled with vibrant floral arrangements celebrating his life.

For those who wish to honor Minh through a lasting tribute, memorial contributions may be made to Dang-erous Minds, our family's Race for Hope team benefiting the National Brain Tumor Society.

For the past three years, we walked beside Minh to raise funds and awareness for brain cancer research. This year, we will walk in Minh's memory with the hope that one day no other family will have to face a pediatric-type high-grade glioma, or any brain tumor at all, or experience the heartbreak of losing someone they love. Your generosity will help fund critical research, advance new treatments, and support patients and families facing brain tumors.
