Patricia M. Murphy of Boyertown passed away on August 1 in the Reading Hospital at 66 years of age. Born in Pottstown to Faye (Unger) and Martin Murphy she was a graduate of Boyertown Area High School. Pat received a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science Interdisciplinary Studies from Temple University.
A long-time resident of Philadelphia’s Rittenhouse Square, Pat worked for the Commission of Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools for over two decades. After a short time in Germantown Pat returned to the Boyertown area over a decade ago.
Pat was a voracious reader with her interests centering on crime fiction and international politics. The music of Elton John and Renaissance always brightened the house. She held a special passion for Borzios (Russian Wolfhounds) and always had her beloved kitty cats at her side.
As an avid collector of Pennsylvania redware, fine German and English porcelains and the paintings of Philadelphia artist Howard Watson, Pat scoured the east coast’s antique fairs and flea markets looking for new treasures. Accompanied by her sister these trips often incorporated looking for the “Best of” hot dogs, crab cakes, fried chicken and NC pulled pork. A long-standing family eating tradition that Pat enjoyed was to savor the paella and sangria at Sevilla NYC.
Always inquisitive, she spent countless hours researching her family’s roots and constructing an extensive family tree on Ancestry.com. Pat was often found trudging through cemeteries both here in America as well as in Ireland look for lost connections.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents and brother Michael. She is survived by her sister Maureen Murphy, Boyertown, her sister-in-law Cleo Murphy, her beloved nieces Jenny Murphy and Bridgit Taylor wife of Brian and their marvelous children Martin, Evelyn and Michael. All of Huntsville AL.
