David R Mammarella, 75, husband of Jeannie L (Benditt) Mammarella, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 9, 2026, at St. Joseph Medical Center in Reading, PA.
Born in Pottstown, he was the son of the late Pasquale and Louise (Roberts) Mammarella.
David was a hardworking, loving, and compassionate husband, father, and grandfather, remembered for his warmth, humor, and deep devotion to his family. He took great pride in his grandchildren and cherished watching them grow into remarkable young people.
David retired from PECO after 49 years working mostly as a fuels technician. Sports were David’s #1 form of entertainment. He loved baseball and all the inner workings of the game. When David watched baseball, he not only watched the game, but he also watched the action of the catcher closely since he played the position of catcher all through little league and high school ball, always wearing #15 after his favorite baseball player, Richie Allen. He also played on many Pottstown hard ball and soft ball leagues. David’s claim to fame was his try-out with the Philadelphia Phillies.
Among other things, David loved his coffee. He was also a fabulous cook mostly known for his “World Famous Meatballs” as he would call them, fried gently with love then put in his incredible red sauce. David also introduced “Zeps” to the people of Boyertown bringing his Italian flare to an ordinary hoagie. David was a very active member of Good Shepherd Church. He loved making food for the church, cooking for Shepherd’s Café (soup kitchen) and for various church banquets and fundraisers. He was a fun guy and brought a fun spark of energy to the kitchen or any committee he was a part of.
Besides being a baseball fan, he loved Muhammad Ali. Also, he was a “Big Foot Fanatic”—he really did believe!! David was mostly known by everyone as a Dallas Cowboys fan. He would wear his Cowboys hat proudly in Eagles country just to get a rise out of everyone! He was a very colorful person with a great personality, compassionate, kind, and fun to be around and if you heard a loud car going through Boyertown, it was probably Dave in his hopped-up Mustang. Despite his fear of water, he loved renting a house on Lake Wallenpaupack with his family and friends driving his boat all over the lake.
Surviving along with his wife Jeannie, of 42 years, is his son Kris Mammarella, husband of Anita; his daughter Jenny Dulude; grandchildren Ryan Dulude, Corinne Mammarella, Michael Mammarella, and Zakkary R. Keppler. He is predeceased by his brother Bobby Mammarella and his stepson Brock A Keppler.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2026 at Good Shepherd United Church of Christ, 35 W Philadelphia Ave, Boyertown, PA 19512, with the viewing from 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM, and the funeral service following at 11:00 AM officiated by Pastor Robert Ziehmer.
