Donald M. Hoffman, age 86, husband of the late Shirley V. (Keyser) Hoffman, of Gilbertsville Rd., Gilbertsville, died Saturday in PMMC. Mr. Hoffman also resided at the Frederick Mennonite Community for the past six months.

Born in Gilbertsville he was the son of the late Guy B. and Mildred R. (Smith) Hoffman.

Donald and his late wife Shirley, founded and operated Twin Ponds Golf Club. Twin Ponds opened for business 47 years ago on June 20, 1963.

He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Boyertown. He also was a member of the Boyertown Masonic Lodge #741, Pottstown Elks Lodge #814 B.P.O.E. where he was honored in 1989 as the “Elk of the Year”. Donald also enjoyed hunting, fishing and bowling over the years. His love of people and the enjoyment he received by helping them thru out his life is what made him so successful at operating Twin Ponds Golf club for so many years.

Surviving are two daughters; Marcia A. wife of H. Richard Slade, of Upper Pottsgrove Twp., and Sheila K. wife of William M. Walsh, of Gilbertsville, and a son in-law; Ron Boyles. In addition he is survived by four grandchildren; Ben B. husband of Amy Boyles, Kris B. husband of Colleen Boyles, Jessica M. wife of Russell Korne, and Luke A. Walsh, and three great grandchildren; Emily C. Korne, Dillon J. Boyles, and Jackson C. Korne, and another great grandchild soon to be born. Also surviving is a sister in-law; Theresa Kollar, of Boyertown, and two nieces. 

Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Thursday at Catagnus Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 1020 E. Phila. Ave. Gilbertsville. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Boyertown. Visitation will be on Thursday from 8 to 10:15 AM, at the funeral home.
