Dorothy M.  “Dot” (Updegrove) Kemp, 85, wife of Charles L. Kemp of 66 years, of Barto, passed away on Wednesday at Pottstown Memorial Medical Center.

Born in Barto, she was the daughter of the late Mark and Jane (Bartholomew) Updegrove.

Dorothy was a member of Huff’s Union Church in Alburtis where she sang in the choir and was in the Senior Citizen group. She worked at the former Pottstown Shirt Factory and Bally Ribbon Mills. She served as the Washington Township Tax Collector for 20 years and served as Majority Inspector for Elections for many years.  Dot was also a member of Barto Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary for 50 years. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and baking.

Along with her husband she is survived by son Edwin Kemp, husband of Patricia, of Bechtelsville, daughter Claudia Strauss, wife of Mark, of Barto; grandchildren Jennifer, Jim, husband of Jessica, Pamela, Joel, James, and Amy; and 5 great grandchildren. Along with her parents, she is predeceased by her sister Myrtle Reitnauer.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, 11:00AM at Huff’s Union Church, 540 Conrad Road, Alburtis with Rev. Jane Kropa officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday from 6:00 to 7:30PM at Catagnus Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Inc., 1020 E. Phila. Ave., Gilbertsville and on Monday from 10:00AM to 11:00AM at the church.
