Ernest "Ernie" Fanaro, 82, of Collegeville, husband of the late Velia (Imposimato) Fanaro, passed away on Wednesday, August 17, 2011 at Phoenixville Hospital, surrounded by his children.

Born on January 3, 1929, in Norristown, he was the son of the late Filomeno and Concetta (Bruno) Fanaro.

Ernie was a hard worker even in his younger years.  He had the gift to make rough times a fun time like when he served his country in the Korean War.  He enjoyed reminiscing with others about all the mischievous antics he got into. He worked hard to open his store "Fanaro Brothers", which the community still remembers with affection.  In his later years, he worked at Sears in Collegeville and when he retired he opened Mama Velia's restaurant with his two sons and enjoyed giving a hand at Marzella's Pizzeria. He loved to share his smile and his heart with others, often showing up surprisingly with a pizza, bag of groceries, or toys for children.

His four children Nina, Anita, Robby, and Rick and his grandchildren Ryan, Alex, Leo, Nick, Cooper, and Mia say a special good-bye.  He will always be our "#1 hero".

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, 10:30AM at St. Eleanor RC Church, 647 Locust Street, Collegeville with Msgr. Patrick E. Sweeney officiating. Burial will follow in Limerick Garden of Memories, Limerick. Visitation will be Wednesday, from 9:30 AM to 10:15 Am at the church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made on Ernest's name to Make-A-Wish Foundation of Philadelphia and Susquehanna Valley, One Valley Square, Suite 133, 512 Township Line Road, Blue Bell, PA 19422.
