George R. Weaver, Sr., Age 85, beloved husband of Frances E. (Edwards) Weaver of Gilbertsville, PA passed from this world to go his home with the Lord on Wednesday, November 18, 2009.

Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late William G. and Julia P. (Zurbach) Weaver.

Mr. and Mrs. Weaver were married 62 years. George was a graduate of Simon Gratz High School; and attended Temple University in the Pre-Medicine program. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving during World War II in the European Theatre as a paratrooper with the 101st Airborne in France, Germany, Belgium, and Luxembourg.  He survived many combat missions including the Battle of Bastogne following which he was awarded a field promotion to the rank of Major; he was the recipient of the Bronze Star, the WWII Victory Medal, The Good Conduct Medal and European Middle Eastern Campaign Medal.

He was employed for over twenty years as a Pharmaceutical Representative for the former Carter-Wallace Pharmaceutical Company until his retirement.

George was a servant of the Lord and an active member of the New Hanover Evangelical Lutheran Church where he served on Church Council, and the Sunday School Committee.  

He was active in the Boy Scouts of America program with Troop 36 in Gilbertsville, PA and was a recipient of the Order of the Arrow.

George loved the outdoors, camping, and vacationing with his family by automobile and motorcycle; he was an award-winning weightlifter at the Pottstown YMCA, and also enjoyed flying having earned his private pilot license. 

In addition to his devoted wife, George is survived by his three sons, whom he regarded as his “proudest accomplishments”:  George R. Weaver Jr., W. Douglas Weaver, and Keith M. Weaver and their wives Karen, Helen, and Tamara, as well as seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.   George also will be deeply missed by his other relatives and countless friends who loved his humor, charm, wisdom, and good nature.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service and celebration of George’s life on Sunday November 22, 2009 at 2:00pm at the New Hanover Lutheran Church, 2941 Lutheran Road Gilbertsville, PA 19525, with the Reverend Thomas M. Lang officiating. Burial will be conducted privately in Maine, George’s favorite state.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts made in his memory to the New Hanover Evangelical Lutheran Church at the above address.
