George Steinmetz, Jr., 86, of Pottstown, formerly of Birdsboro, husband of Margaret “Peg” L. (Field) Steinmetz, passed away Sunday at Southeastern Veterans Center, Spring City.
Born September 11, 1925 in Birdsboro, he was the son of the late George, Sr. and Pearl (Francis) Steinmetz.
George served in the Marine Corps. during WWII. After the service, he was employed at Firestone Tire & Rubber for 35 years and retired from Occidental after 10 years. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, North End Fire Co., and Stichter Masonic Lodge #254. George enjoyed bowling, golfing, singing in the chorus, and aviation.
Surviving along with his wife are daughters Sandra Padden, Susan Eddinger, wife of John, Sheryl Jeske, wife of Kenneth, Sylvia Gilbert, wife of Jay, and Sharon Steinmetz; sons Steven Steinmetz, and Stanley Steinmetz, husband of Kendi; 15 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Including his parents, George was predeceased by his three sisters Catherine Steinmetz, Frances Welsh, and Anna Jane High.
A memorial service will be celebrated Friday June 8th at Catagnus Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Inc., 711 N. Franklin St., Pottstown. Visitation will be held from 5:30 PM- 6:30 PM at the funeral home. A Masonic service will take place at 6:30 PM followed by the Memorial Service officiated by Rev. Paul Xander. Interment will be private.
