Helen E. (Kijek ) Hanley, 86 , wife of 65 years to John “Jack” Hanley of Lower Pottsgrove Township, passed away on Friday at Sanatoga Center. Born in Shamokin, Pa., she was a daughter of the late Alma (Wronowski) Kijek and the late Anthony Kijek.
She was a 1942 graduate of Coal Township High school, and in addition to being a homemaker, she had also worked at her brother’s oil business, Reed’s Fuel Oil Company in Stowe. Helen was a parishioner of Saint Aloysius Roman Catholic Church of Pottstown, and a member of the Saint Aloysius Senior Group, where she had been a past secretary. She always loved playing pinochle and other card games, bowling, and bingo.
In addition to her husband, Helen is also survived by her daughter; Mary Anne Hanley, of Lower Pottsgrove Township, her sons; James F. Hanley, husband of Bridget M., of Elverson, Pa., Dennis J. Hanley, husband of Yundi, of Salem, W.V., Kevin T. Hanley, of New Egypt, N.J., her grandchildren; Jamie Hanley, Karl Hanley, Timothy Hanley, her great-grandchildren; Summer Hanley, Karl Timothy Hanley, and her step-great-granddaughter; Brittany Wagner. Along with her parents, Helen was also preceded in death by her sister; the late Eleanor Venesky, and two brothers; Peter Kijek, and Stanley Kijek.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday at 10:30 AM, with Rev. Fr. Joseph Maloney officiating, at Saint Aloysius R.C. Church, 223 N. Hanover Street, Pottstown, Pa., 19464. Burial will follow at Saint Aloysius New R.C. Cemetery in Pottstown. Visitation will be on Wednesday morning from 9:30-10:15 AM at the church. Memorial donations in her name can be made to the Saint Aloysius R.C. Church Gathering Center at the above address.
