Jake P. McHugh, 14, of Collegeville, peacefully passed away on Friday February 9th at Dupont Hospital for Children in Delaware after a six month battle with lymphoma.

Born in Bryn Mawr, he was the son of Matthew and Sandra (Ricciardi) McHugh.

Jake was a member of Stratford Friends School in Newtown Square where he was a member of the cross country and hiking club. He enjoyed robotics, loved freight trains, and was a master builder with any material, his favorite being Legos. Jake had a passion for dragons and they were always part of his life. It grew from his fascination in Minecraft and fighting the Ender Dragon. He would identify himself with dragons, joking with his nurses at the hospital to “be careful with his dragon blood” when they came to take care of him. He spent many of his days exploring railroad lines all over the area. He especially loved old abandoned trains. Jake taught all those who loved him to have a sense of wonder and curiosity about the world. He was a loving son and brother, and he will be sadly missed by everyone who knew him.
Surviving with his parents are his siblings Sean and Gabby McHugh; maternal grandmother Rosemary Ricciardi; paternal grandmother Madeline Hopkins; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He is predeceased by his maternal grandfather Mario Ricciardi and paternal grandparents Thomas and Veronica McHugh.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, Feb. 15, 11:00AM to St. Eleanor RC Church, 647 Locust St, Collegeville. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6:00Pm to 8:00PM at Catagnus Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Ltd., 329 N. Lewis Road, Royersford and on Thursday from 9:00AM to 10:15AM at the church.
