James F. Mason III, 71, of Bechtelsville, husband of Margaret (Stahlnecker) Mason for 48 years, passed away Thursday October 24, 2019 at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest.
Born in Paterson, NJ, he was the son of James F. Mason, Jr. and Dorothy (Smith) Mason.
James attended school in Haledon, NJ and graduated from Ridgewood High School, Lafayette College, where he majored in chemistry, and New Jersey College of Dentistry. He practiced dentistry in Boyertown for 42 years. A Vietnam era vet, he served as a dentist with the US Public Health Service in Tampa, FL, treating members of the US Merchant Marine and military retired.
He earned the rank of Eagle Scout at age 13. He was past president of the Boyertown Historical Society and the Pottstown Dental Study Club. He was a longtime member of the Scottish Clan Fraser and Clan Gunn societies and a member of the Sons of the American Revolution.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Gwendolyn Mason and Chris Kemmerer of Emmaus; Catherine (Kate), wife of Kevin Kane of Pottstown; and Sarah Mason of Bechtelsville; a granddaughter, Kelsea Gibson; and a brother Bruce of Warwick, NY.
He was predeceased by a brother Richard Van Rensselaer Mason, in 1965.
Funeral services are private.
