James J. Shaffer, 76, Husband of Rose Marie (Walsh) Shaffer of Limerick, passed away on Monday at Mercy Suburban Hospital in Norristown. Born in Bridgeport, Pa., he was a son of the late Maryann (Mc Gee) Shaffer & the late Frank Shaffer.

Mr. Shaffer was a veteran of the United States Army who served two years as a Military Policeman at the Officers Training School in Oberammergau, Germany from 1954 to 1956.  He was also employed for 24 years at the former Allentown Portland Cement Company, & later on as a Sexton at both St. Patrick’s R.C. Church in Norristown & Corpus Christi R.C. Church in Lansdale. Mr. Shaffer was also very instrumental in establishing various fund raising activities at both St. Patrick’s & Corpus Christi Churches that funded student’s education & activities.  Jim loved his wife, children, grandchildren & sisters, especially his favorite sister, Sally.  He loved anything Irish & played his Irish Music often.  Jim had an extensive collection of lighthouses, Santas, & snowmen, & Christmas was his favorite holiday. He enjoyed working in the garden & buying new & exotic plants.  His favorite vacation spot was Wildwood, New Jersey.

In addition to his Wife, he is also survived by his children; Barbara Ann La Tour,Wife of Paul of Pottstown, Mary Ann Rosar, of Douglassville, James F. Shaffer,Husband of Marybeth of Kingston, New York, Daniel F. Shaffer,Husband of Mishel, of Glenmoore, Pa., his grandchildren; Elyse La Tour, Lauren Rosar, Michael La Tour, Benjamin Shaffer, Abby Shaffer, Madison Shaffer, Bailey Shaffer & his Sisters; Patricia Courtney, Helen Shaffer & Sally Shaffer.  Mr. Shaffer was also preceded in death by his Sister, the late Mary Jane O’Donnell.

Relatives & friends are invited to attend his Memorial Service on Friday at 11:30 AM at Catagnus Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 329 N. Lewis Road, Royersford, Pa., 19468, & to his Visitation on Friday morning from 9:30-11:15 AM at the Funeral Home.  Burial will be held privately by his family at a later date.  Memorial contributions in his name can be made to the Montgomery Home Care & Hospice, 25 W. Fornace Street, Norristown, Pa., 19401.
