Joan D. (Fimple) Rafferty, 71, of Glen Mills and former long time resident of Drexel Hill, wife of the late William J. Rafferty, Sr., passed away on Wednesday, June 2, at her residence after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Philadelphia on May 23, 1939, & raised in the Cardington section of Upper Darby, she was the daughter of the late William Gordon and Marie (Layden) Fimple.

Mrs. Rafferty was a 1958 graduate of West Catholic High School for Girls in West Philadelphia.  She was employed by Verizon & retired as a manager after 35 years of service.  She was a long time parishioner of Saint Dorothy’s R.C. Church in Drexel Hill where she was very active in many of the church’s organizations. Mrs. Rafferty was an officer in the Telephone Pioneers organization, and was very active with the Meals on Wheels Program.  She enjoyed bowling, playing cards, and knitting, but most of all loved to travel.  She will always be remembered as a person who loved to host family& friends especially during the holiday season. She was a very devoted and loyal friend and was loved by many.

She is survived by her sister, Margaret De Cenzi, of Glen Mills; her brothers William Fimple of Lake Tahoe, NV., Jack Fimple (Betty) of Windsor, CA., & Joseph Fimple (Marjorie) of Kittery, ME.; children, Sandra Pilatti (Mark) of Elk Grove, CA., William J. Rafferty, Jr. (Catherine) of Gilbertsville, Pa. & Kevin T. Rafferty (Connie) of Boca Raton, Fl.; 10 grandchildren, many nieces & nephews; & her companion Frank Murphy.  Mrs. Rafferty was also preceded in death by her brother, Thomas Fimple, & her sister Marie Ronayne.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, June 7th, 10:30AM at Saint Dorothy R.C. Church, Township Line & Burmont Roads, Drexel Hill. Visitation on Monday from 9:15AM  to 10:15 AM at the church.  Interment will follow in SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery, Springfield, Pa.
