Joseph J. Compton, 64, loving husband for 40 years to Susan (O’Connor) Compton, of Pottstown, passed away on Oct. 18, 2018 at the SouthEastern Veterans Center in Spring City, where he received compassionate care.

Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Patrick C. and Margaret M. (Finnegan) Compton.
Joseph graduated from Philadelphia Community College and was employed as a K-9 Police Officer at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard. He retired from the USPS as a Postal Police Officer and also retired from the military as a Law Enforcement Specialist, serving eight years active duty in the Air Force and twelve years in the Army Reserve.

Joseph was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police 112 and Pottstown VFW Post 780. He was also an honorary black belt in Tae-Kwando and a CPR/First Aid instructor saving two people’s lives. He enjoyed singing, dancing, camping and traveling.

Joseph was a devoted father to his daughter, Katherine, wife of John Davis, Royersford and his son Kenneth Compton, husband of Rachel, of West Columbia, SC. He adored his granddaughters Caidence, Isabella, and Grace Compton.

He is survived by brothers Patrick F. Compton, John Compton, husband of Anna, Robert Compton, husband of Mary Rae, and James Compton; sisters Teresa Compton, Rosemary, wife of Joseph Bria, and Rita Compton. He was predeceased by sister Margaret Chappell.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, Oct. 25, 11:00AM at St. Joseph RC Church, 3640 Schuylkill Rd, Spring City, PA 19475. Burial will follow in Limerick Garden of Memories with full military honors in the Veteran’s Section at the cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 9:30AM to 10:45AM at the church.

Memorial donations may be made in Joseph’s name to St. Joseph Church, 3640 Schuylkill Rd., Spring City, PA 19475.
