Joseph W. Wanish Sr., 86, husband of the late Virginia B. (Bittner) Wanish, of Pottstown, passed away on Tuesday at Pottstown Memorial Medical Center.

Born in Pottstown, he was the son of the late Charles E. and Carrie E. (Wentzel) Wanish.

Surviving is his daughter Frances M. Rimel, widow of Earl C. Rimel Sr.; daughter in law Elizabeth, widow of Joseph W. Wanish Jr; sister Ruth E. Ruyak, wife of George C.; grandchildren Bonnie Ann Mace, Darrell J. Wanish, Lori Ann Eppihimer, Michelle L. Willman, and Earl C. Rimel Jr; 8 great grandchildren and companion Annabel Dise. Along with his parents, he is predeceased by his son Joseph W. Wanish Jr., siblings Leonard  and Harry Dersh, Charles Wanish, Pearl Grim, Geraldine Stewart and Mary Vallish; and granddaughter Brenda L. Henry.

Joseph worked for Jones Motor of Spring City for 45 years. He then worked for Car Color, later PPG, as a delivery Driver, where he retired. He proudly worked on the Pottstown 4th of July Committee where he was an original member. He was also a member of the Pottstown Clubsmans Assoc., the German Club, Knight of Columbus in Stowe, ST. Gabriella’s Lodge, West End Fire Company of Stowe, a lifetime member of the FOE and Victor Emmanuel’s in Reading.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, 9:30AM at Catagnus Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Inc., 711 N. Franklin Street, Pottstown with Rev. Karen Creasy officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Park, Pottstown. Family and friends may call on Friday from 6:30PM to 8:00PM and on Saturday from 9:00AM to 9:30AM at the funeral home.
