Kenneth W. Schaeffer, Sr., 94 Kenneth W. Schaeffer, Sr., 94, of Pottstown, husband of the late Genevieve (Hinton) Schaeffer, passed away on his birthday, Friday October 12, 2018 at Manatawny Manor.
Born in Pottstown, he was the son of the late Norman and Margaret (Binder) Schaeffer.
Ken served in the US Army during WWII. He was a lifelong member of Christ Episcopal Church in Pottstown, where he served on vestry and numerous activities. Ken was a lifelong sports enthusiast and supported all the Philadelphia teams. He played baseball well into his thirties for Ringing Hill area teams. Ken also wrote numerous articles published in the Pottstown Mercury. He had a passion for gardening and planting flowers in his front yard. All would agree that he was happiest when spending time with his family and friends. Ken had a kind and gentle soul and will be remembered as a friend to all.
Surviving are his four children Kenneth Schaeffer, Jr., Jacqueline Matthews wife of Edward, David Schaeffer husband of Deborah, and Wendy Semmens; six grandchildren Laura Ramler, Casey Colarusso, Zachary Schaeffer, Tyler, Jamie, and Kylie Matthews; six great grandchildren Ryan, Lucas, Siena, Tarah, Maxon, and Joli; two brothers Walter and Raymond Schaeffer; and one sister Eleanor Carroll.
Along with his wife and parents, Ken was predeceased by his brother Linwood Schaeffer and son-in-law Robert Semmens.
A memorial service will be held Friday October 19, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Christ Episcopal Church, 316 E High St., Pottstown, PA 19464, with Fr. Joshua M. Caler officiating. A reception will be held at the church immediately following the service. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. Catagnus Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Inc., 711 N. Franklin St., Pottstown is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Kenneth’s memory to Christ Episcopal Church, 316 E High St., Pottstown, PA 19464.
