Marcia Ann Hayer (‘M’), aged 58, passed away on July 31st, 2018 at The University of Pennsylvania Hospital from complications following an aortic dissection. Marcia was born on September 5th, 1959 in Norristown, Pennsylvania, the daughter of William and Ethel Phillips.

Marcia led an adventurous childhood. She spent her summers swimming and biking with her siblings and cousins and enjoyed camping via the family Avion trailer visiting many states across the continental US. She was an active member of the Girl Scouts and played on her school’s field hockey team. She had an affinity for music, playing the flute for the band, attending concerts, and playing records on weekends with siblings and friends.

Marcia graduated from Plymouth Whitemarsh High School in 1977 and spent her early career working as a retail manager for LadyBug and the Corner House. Her store was often the top performer, and Marcia was even recognized in Philadelphia Magazine for her retail success. She later transitioned to the healthcare industry working for the local dentist offices’ and the PMA Medical Specialists of Phoenixville and Pottstown. Eventually, Marcia combined her retail and health care experience by owning and operating an online health care store.

In 1983, Marcia met someone who would become the love of her life, Gregory K. Hayer, at the Flannigan’s dance floor in King of Prussia. Shortly after in 1984, they were married and over the next 34 years they built a loving family and a wonderful life together. Greg and Marcia were more than husband and wife; they were best friends and a dynamic duo known as “Bond & M”. They did almost everything together from traveling the world, to walking the dog and golfing and, most recently, babysitting their grandchildren.

In addition to raising their three children, Marcia was an active member of the community. She volunteered regularly and served on boards, holding leadership roles for multiple community causes, church groups, and the Pottsgrove Area School District.

Marcia is survived by her husband, Gregory K Hayer; children, Joshua (Emily), Justin (ToriLynn) and Jena; her mother, Ethel Phillips; siblings, W. Bradford Phillips and Cynthia Rheinheimer; grandchildren, Hunter and Campbell; the family dog, Winnie; and many other close relatives.

In addition, Marcia touched so many other lives across the many places she considered home, from Plymouth Meeting and Pottstown to Baywood and most recently Fort Lauderdale. Marcia was known throughout her life for her endearing outgoing personality. She created a welcoming environment and made friends everywhere she went. She valued all her relationships and was valued in return. Those closest to Marcia thought of her as “a light in the universe” and “an angel on Earth.”

Many people spend their lives trying to find happiness. Marcia spent her life creating it.
