Mary Louise Messmer, 88, of Pottstown, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 11 at Pottstown Hospital after a short illness.

Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Anthony C. and Mary J. (Uricheck) Messmer.

When Mary was 16, she moved to Chicago into the Sisters of Divine Providence home. He father helped to have the same facility opened in Pottstown. Upon the closing of the Sisters home, Mary moved to a new home in Pottstown supervised by Growth Horizons. She was also very involved with Special Olympics Bowling at Limerick Lanes.

Surviving is sister Elizabeth “Betsy” Manning, brother in law James McCabe, her lifetime friend Ruth Tansey, and several nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, she is predeceased by her sister Barbara “Bobby” McCabe and brother in law Dr. Richard Manning.

A memorial service will be Thursday, Nov. 16, 11:00AM at Catagnus Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Inc., 711 N. Franklin Street, Pottstown, with visitation from 10:30AM to 11:00AM. Burial will be private and at a later date.
