Mildred L.(Cummings) Maerz, 88, of The Meadows at Shannondell, formerly of Royersford, passed away on Thursday at Phoenixville Hospital.

Born in Decatur, IL., she was the daughter of the late John Edgar and Sarah (Loughead) Cummings.

Surviving are sons Dr. John C. Maerz, Jr. (Debbie) of Vestal, NY, Mark S. Maerz (Norma) of South Portland, ME and Henry Chmielefski of Royersford, PA; Daughter Sandra Marchese, widow of Robert Marchese, of Collegeville, PA; Grandsons: Dr. John C. Maerz, III (Lori) of Watkinsville, GA, Paul W. Marchese (Shannon) of Colorado Springs, CO, and James R. Maerz of Vestal, NY; Granddaughters Stacia Cook (PJ) of Collegeville, PA, Jennifer N. Maerz of Athens, GA, Jacqui Maerz of Vestal, NY, and Margeaux E.Maerz of Athens, GA; and Great-grandsons: Jack, Robert, Garrett, Cameron, Gavin. Along with her parents, she is predeceased by her daughter Susan Maerz and brother Raymond Cummings.

Mildred was a graduate of Decatur Central High. She worked as a legal assistant before WWII. Mildred enlisted in and proudly served in the US Coast Guard as a SPAR during WWII; based at Salem Mass where she met former husband Jack, a pilot. She helped her former husband set up his medical practice in Oaks, PA. She later retired from a job at Perkiomen Valley High School where she was the secretary in the Guidance Depart. She was a member of Phoenixville Hospital Ladies Aux, Collegeville Community Club, was a St Paul’s Youth Fellowship Advisor and loved playing the piano and bridge, travelling, doing for others. Mildred sense of humor will be fondly remembered.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, 1:00PM at Catagnus Funeral Home & Cremation C enter, Ltd., 329 N. Lewis Road, Royersford, with Rev. Daniel K. Olsen officiating. Burial will be private. Family and friends will be welcomed from 12:30PM to 1:00PM at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mildred’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association, Delaware Valley Chapter, 399 Market St., Suite 102, Philadelphia, PA 19106.
