Robert F. Hunter, 78, of Gilbertsville, formerly of Philadelphia, passed away on Thursday, June 13, 2019.
Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Edward and Elizabeth (Sharkey) Hunter. Bob was a proud 1959 graduate of Roman Catholic HS in Philadelphia, regularly attending the annual Day at the Bay reunion in North Wildwood. He was a US Army veteran and former president of the PECO Quarter Century Club, having worked for PECO for over 30 years. Always involved, he also formerly served as treasurer of the PECO Bowling League. In addition to his work with PECO, Bob was a Teamster, working for the Philadelphia Inquirer for over 10 years. He was also a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, proud of his Irish heritage. In addition to his love of bowling and all things Irish, Bob was a voracious reader, never leaving home without his Nook or Kindle. He also enjoyed photography and could be found behind the camera at every family event. Of all things, he most enjoyed going to the shore – North Wildwood and Cape May in particular, and loved the opportunities he had to travel to places like New York, Chicago, and Canada to watch his grandson play hockey. Bob was also an avid bike rider – a pastime he enjoyed even in recent months.
Bob leaves behind his wife of 50 years, Patricia (nee Carragher), along with his children, Bobby, husband of Kate, Maureen Weinberger, wife of Scott, Drew, husband of Stacey, and Megan Bamberger, wife of George; and his grandchildren, Robert, Chase, and Haley Weinberger, Aidan and Corinne Hunter. One of 13 siblings, Bob is survived by his sister Elizabeth (Betty Lou) Popdan, wife of Robert (Dack) and his brother James Hunter, husband of Mary. He is predeceased by 6 brothers and 4 sisters.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, June 20, 11:00AM at St. Teresa of Calcutta RC Church, 256 Swamp Pike, Schwenksville, PA 19473, with burial to follow in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 9:30AM to 10:45AM at the church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bob’s name to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 15829, Arlington, VA 22215
