Robert P. Hammond, 87, of Limerick Twp., formerly of Bridgeport, husband of Joan T. (Willans) Hammond, passed away Monday December 17, 2018 at Rehab at Shannondell.
Born in Bridgeport, he was the son of the late John and Bess (Bateman) Hammond.
Robert attended St. Augustine’s Elementary School and graduated in 1950 from Bridgeport High School. He served in the US Navy for four years and reenlisted in the reserves for another 20 years. He worked at Merck Sharp & Dohme for 35 years and retired in 1990. Robert was a member of St. Augustine’s Church in Bridgeport. He also served as the President of the Bridgeport Parks & Rec. committee and worked part time at Bridgeport Elementary School as a playground supervisor. He and his wife moved to Limerick over 20 years ago and was a member of St. Teresa of Calcutta where he was a member of the choir.
Bob and Joan lived with their daughter Maureen Keller wife of Denny of Limerick; two sons Robert P. Hammond, Jr. husband of Diane Sabol of Hampstead, NC, and Stephen T. Hammond, Sr., husband of Connie Olson of Lansdale; seven grandchildren Dennis Keller husband of Ashley, Theresa Keller, Catherine Hammond, R.J. Hammond, Casey Hammond, Stephen Hammond, Jr., and Alexander Hammond; and one great granddaughter Amelia Keller.
Along with his parents, Robert was predeceased by his son Christopher Hammond husband of Jill, daughter Theresa “Terry” Hammond. He was the youngest child of 10 brothers and sisters who also were predeceased. The Hammond family of John and Bess from Bridgeport are all together once again now.
A Memorial Mass will be held Friday December 21, 2018 at 11:00 AM at St. Teresa of Calcutta, 256 Swamp Pike, Schwenksville, PA 19473 Limerick Township, with Fr. Paul Brandt officiating. Interment will follow at St. Augustine’s Cemetery, Bridgeport. Visitation will be held Friday from 9:00-10:45 AM at the church. Catagnus Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Ltd., 329 N. Lewis Rd., Royersford is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Robert’s memory to the St. Teresa of Calcutta Building Fund, 256 Swamp Pike, Schwenksville, PA 19473.
