Vernon Franklin “Mac” or “Blinky” McMullen Jr.,78, of Spring City, formerly of Magnolia NJ, husband of Mary D. (Salvatore) McMullen, passed away on Sunday at Parkhouse Providence Point Nursing Home.
Born in Clementon, NJ, he was the son of the late Vernon F. and Myrtle (Tenure) McMullen.
Vernon graduated from Overbrook Regional High School in Lindenwold, NJ in 1952 and joined the United States Navy where he became an Electricians Mate A on the Destroyer USS Fisk for four years. He then joined the Naval Reserves on the Destroyer Escort USS McNair as a Fire Control and Sonar Technician when he was recalled to active duty in 1961 and honorably discharged in 1962. He attended Rider College on the GI Bill between 1965 and 1969 and P.M.A.P. courses at Drexel University. In 1966 his job took him to Burroughs Corporation in Downingtown and later to Extracorporeal Medical Specialties, Inc., King of Prussia as a Manager of Purchasing and production Supervisor until his illness in 1977.
Vernon enjoyed Deer hunting, drag racing, and was a champion archer. He was also a member of the VFW in Spring City until 2008.
Surviving with his wife of 56 years are sons Mark and Chris; daughter Tina Marie, wife of Scott Rhoads; sister Ruth Ann, wife of George Lockwood and six grandchildren.
